Hamilton Finishes 20th In St. Louis Heat

As usual when the Nationwide Series visits Gateway International Raceway, the Heat came away the winner.  High temperatures controlled the weekend and even played a role in the loss of power at the speedway prior to the start of the 21st race of the season.

Eckrich Meats driver Bobby Hamilton, Jr. qualified his No. 25 Team Rensi Motorsports Ford in the 15th position just a few hours before the start of the event.  With numerous chassis changes, Hamilton wasn’t quite sure what the qualifying laps would hold, but he came away pleased with the effort.

As the race began under a track lit by only 75% of the available lighting, Hamilton struggled with his chassis under the tough racing conditions.  He seemed to spend most of the laps running between 10th and 22nd in search of more speed from his machine.  Gateway International is a tough race track to succeed on when the chassis and engine combinations don’t match perfectly.

Over the last 25 laps Hamilton faded from his spot just outside the top-10, to a 20th place finish.

“We had hoped to finish much higher here tonight, but it wasn’t meant to be,” Hamilton said.  “We will head to Indianapolis next week and try to find our way back to the top-ten.  We want to give Eckrich a strong run next weekend.”

Carl Edwards captured his second win of the season, holding off Joey Logano for the win.   Next Saturday the Nationwide drivers will compete at O’Reilly Raceway Park.  Check your local listings for broadcast times in your area.
